Montessori Education
The Montessori philosophy of education is that every child carries within themselves the person they will become. To develop their physical, intellectual and spiritual capacity, children must have freedom — a freedom achieved through order and self-discipline. A child’s world is full of sights and sounds that appear chaotic, and in this chaos they must create order, thus learning to master themselves and the world.
Children’s House
The Children’s House serves children from age 3 to 6 years old. In this classroom of mixed ages, the children independently use the materials designed by Dr. Montessori. The children are gathered for a collective circle for opening and closing prayer, praise and reflection time. Presentations are given
individually and in small groups. Children choose their own activities and develop practical and intellectual abilities through individual discovery, exploration of language, mathematics, geography, geometry, art and music while being directed by the Directress. Children have opportunities to learn “grace and courtesy” and gain confidence and independence in their work.

Elementary Classes
The Elementary program includes children from first through sixth grade. It is during these years that children move from concrete concepts to those that are abstract in a multitude of subjects. There are two separate classes, one for
the first through third grades and the other for fourth through sixth grades. Students are allowed freedom to work at their own pace while being encouraged and lead by their teacher. Subjects included are Math, Language, Geometry, Geography, History, Biology, Music, Art, Literature and Physical Education. Elementary students participate in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for their spiritual formation as well. The multi-age groupings provide many opportunities for social development for elementary children. They are able to maximize their potential by working to their ability rather than their age or class as a whole. These groupings also provide a chance for students to lead, help and guide classmates. Because children are not in a grade-level classroom, there is more flexibility in learning.
